WITNESS is a pioneer in using video in human rights campaigning. Through a number of innovative programs, we have trained thousands of human rights activists in over 70 countries to transform personal stories of abuse into powerful tools for justice, promoting public engagement and policy change.
Trainings
Core Partners Core Partners are non-profit, human rights organizations big and small from around the world that WITNESS equips, trains and supports for up to three years. At any given time, WITNESS is working intensively with 13-15 Core Partners. Groups are invited to submit an application to our program on a rolling basis. Partners are chosen carefully based on the strength of their human rights work, the clarity of their advocacy focus and the ability of video to enhance their campaigns. More >
Video Advocacy Institute (VAI) The Video Advocacy Institute (VAI) is an innovative two-week training in video advocacy for up to 30 human rights defenders from around the world. Modeled on Core Partner as well as Seeding trainings, coursework at the VAI focuses on experiential learning from skills exercises, dialogue, and case studies. The 2008 VAI will be held in association with Concordia University's Communications Studies Program and Documentary Centre in Montreal, Canada from July 19 - August 2, 2008. More >
Seeding Video Advocacy The Seeding Video Advocacy initiative is WITNESS' response to the overwhelming demand for training in the use of video for human rights and social justice advocacy. Through this program, WITNESS provides short-term trainings to a wide array of organizations and networks and acts as a catalyst to stimulate wider and more effective use of video in advocacy efforts worldwide. The initiative also enables us to share lessons learned from our Core Partners' experiences with the broader social justice community. More >
