Matisse Bustos Hawkes

Communications Manager

Matisse Bustos Hawkes joined WITNESS in 2003 and provides creative and strategic leadership on digital communications for the organization. Prior to WITNESS she spent two years at Aperture, the fine photography foundation, as the publicist. She later worked at PixelPress, a multimedia company for social change where she helped produce projects such as "The End of Polio," with UNICEF and WHO which featured the work of world-renowned photojournalist Sebastiao Salgado.
 
Matisse holds a BA in History and Latin American Studies from New York University. She serves on the board of ProyectArte. She speaks English, Spanish and basic Portuguese.

The National Television Academy awarded its first-ever Humanitarian Award to WITNESS for its use of video and online technologies to document and expose human-rights violations around the world. The award honors television professionals and non-profit organizations for programming that advances the common good.
