AJEDI-Ka/PES, Democratic Republic of the Congo
AJEDI-Ka was founded in 1988 and comprises three key project areas: poverty alleviation, the environment, and child soldiers. In light of the ongoing conflict in the country, the organization decided to focus its attention on child soldiers, and created AJEDI-Ka/PES (Child Soldier Project) that same year.
The widespread recruitment of children into armed forces in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is unparalleled throughout Africa. AJEDI-Ka/PES’s first video,On the Frontlines: Child Soldiers in the DRC, seeks to sensitize parents about the dangers of allowing their children to serve as combatants. The second video video, A Duty to Protect , focuses on girl soldiers and calls for the ICC to bring to justice those who recruit and use child soldiers. The third video, Awaiting Tomorrow, features young persons living with HIV/AIDS, and is an urgent call to action by people living with HIV/AIDS in the DRC.
