WITNESS has partnered with the citizen news innovator Storyful to create the YouTube Human Rights Channel—a central hub for citizen footage of human rights issues. From the Arab Spring to the repression of a Russian punk band the Human Rights Channel amplifies the videos that document human rights violations and struggles for justice.
Examples of playlists on the Human Rights Channel include:
- Apparent war crimes in Syria
- Oil extraction and accountability in Nigeria
- Resistance to forced evictions by betel farmers in eastern India
Citizens around the world often risk their lives to document the issues of their communities. By curating and contextualizing their videos, the Human Rights Channel works to see that those efforts are not in vain, and that citizen witnesses can play an important role in human rights advocacy.
