Gala
Once a year, in New York City, WITNESS shines a spotlight on it's work at the Focus for Change benefit dinner and concert. Musician and WITNESS founder, Peter Gabriel, co-hosts the evening which features a VIP Cocktail Reception, a video program highlighting a WITNESS campaign to end human rights abuse, dinner, a live auction of unique items and experiences , and intimate performances by legendary musicians. Our first three Focus for Change events were huge successes. Film sensations Angelina Jolie, Gael García Bernal, and Maggie Gyllenhaal have joined Peter as co-hosts. Featured performers have included Paul Simon, Emmylou Harris, The Roots, Angélique Kidjo, Kate & Fred of the B-52’s, Nile Rodgers & CHIC, Jackson Browne and others.
Save the date November 11, 2009 for our next Focus for Change benefit dinner and concert.
Concerts
WITNESS participates at festivals and concerts around the world, such as Bonnaroo, the Vans Warped Tour, with the support of artists such as Manu Chao, Peter Gabriel, Damien Rice, Ani DiFranco, Rodrigo y Gabriela, The Sierra Leone Refugee Allstars, the Indigo Girls and
many more. Volunteers provide information on WITNESS, hand out
postcards, buttons, show video, set up displays, sign people up for
our esubscribers list, and get to hear some pretty fantastic
musicians. More often then not, we get shout outs from the artists
themselves and one or two have been known to visit the table itself!

Special Events
From special preview
screenings of the latest films complete with panel discussions to
house parties, there are many ways the public can
engage with WITNESS staff and videos. Click here to find out about

Film Festivals
WITNESS partner videos are frequently
featured at human rights and other documentary film festivals around
the world. Our staff and partners are also often asked to participate
on panels and juries at festivals. And in 2007 we established our
first-ever award at the SILVERDOCS film festival. The WITNESS Award in
Honor of Joey R.B. Lozano will be given annually to the director of a
feature-length documentary who has produced a compelling
film about a human rights issue and who also has developed a
well-crafted outreach plan that will enable them to use their film as a
tool for raising awareness and/or creating change. Click here to learn more about film festivals that WITNESS participates in.
