Ines Aisengart Menezes, Archives Program Associate

Ines is an audiovisual preservationist with over 20 years of experience working in traditional institutions as well as individual and collective memory projects in Brazil. At WITNESS, she is part of the Archive Program, developing tools for collecting, managing, and preserving video documentation for human rights advocacy and evidence.

Before joining WITNESS, Ines worked in archival institutions in Brazil, such as Cinemateca Brasileira and Cinemateca do MAM Rio de Janeiro, and the Eye Filmmuseum, in the Netherlands. She worked curating archival symposiums, editing books, and recently has been giving lectures about archive, heritage and cultural processes. She has been advocating for more inclusive policies for the audiovisual heritage in Brazil and is also a member of the ABPA – Brazilian Association of Audiovisual Preservation.

Besides Portuguese, Ines speaks English and Spanish. She holds a MA in Preservation and Presentation of the Moving Image at the University of Amsterdam – UvA, where her thesis research was about preserving digital records of public demonstrations in Rio de Janeiro – largely inspired by WITNESS. She has a BA in Cinema Studies from the Federal Fluminense University – UFF, in Brazil.
