Sara Federlein, Associate Director, Foundations
Sara is the associate director of foundations at WITNESS, where she oversees the organization’s institutional giving program. She has two decades of experience in nonprofit development, administration, planning, and outreach together with a strong interest in the intersection of social issues and visual media. Sara joined WITNESS in 2003 as one of its earliest staff members; since then, she has shepherded a fourfold increase in the organization’s foundation revenue and played a key role in messaging the organization’s programs and vision to external audiences.
Prior to WITNESS, Sara worked on socially-driven photography books and exhibitions at the Aperture Foundation, including Sebastião Salgado’s “Migrations” project at the United Nations; on community development at the Community Service Society of New York; and on grassroots women’s empowerment in Chiang Mai, Thailand. She received a BA in English from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and speaks English and proficient French.
