Victor Ribeiro, Senior Program Manager, LAC

Victor leads WITNESS’ programmatic work in Brazil, working with independent media groups, activists and grassroots organizations on issues of forced evictions, police violence, and the use of video for advocacy and evidentiary purposes.

Originally from Brazil, Victor has spent 15 years working as a freelance documentarist and multi-media communications expert working with independent media for 15 years. He joined WITNESS in 2013 when police brutality against media and social movements surged amidst growing protests. He has supported favela-based groups by providing trainings, convenings, and consultancies to improve media literacy, denounce human rights violations and fight for accountability.

Victor is a founder of Rádio Mutirão, an independent media lab in Rio de Janeiro, which assists collectives and human rights defenders in using technology to fight for justice. He directed 5 documentaries about victims of police violence in favelas, forced evictions caused by major events, and communities using media to protect their lands and people.
