Emma Mitra, Manager of Operations and Knowledge Management
Emma is the manager of Operations and Knowledge Management at WITNESS. She designs and delivers strategies that keep the organization’s global team connected, supported, and equipped to do their vital work defending human rights. Emma leads initiatives that help WITNESS run more smoothly — from redesigning the website and developing an AI-in-the-workplace policy, to co-leading monitoring and evaluation processes and rethinking organization-wide project management. She is passionate about inclusive, collaborative change that reflects WITNESS’s values and DEIJ principles.
Emma brings over a decade of experience in digital strategy, editorial leadership, and project management. Before joining WITNESS, she worked with nonprofits, educational platforms, and public institutions as a communications and engagement specialist — helping organizations tell stories clearly, connect meaningfully with their audiences and to design systems that work.
Emma thrives in collaboration, a thoughtful approach to change, and believes in intentional and innovative operational work rooted in care. She thrives on bringing order to chaos — whether mapping a knowledge management strategy or running a team workshop.
Outside work, Emma cycles long distances for fun, is trying to write that novel, loves theatre and the films of John Waters
At WITNESS, Emma gets to combine her passion for justice, her love of digital problem-solving, and her appreciation for a well-run Notion team space — all in service of a more just, connected world.
